Extrafit Hardener 2224

Field of Application

Extrafit Hardener 2224 is a water based concentrate for adjusting process water to certain water hardness. The usage of Extrafit Hardener 2224 is always necessary when extremely soft water is used due to geologic circumstances or due to water preparation (reverse osmosis or com-plete demineralisation). Water qualities without hardness components are ideal for individual users, for others, however, they cannot be used and therefore have to be prepared.
These are for example offset printers. For the usage in the area of plate making and air mois-tening, soft water is ideal. For offset printing, however, the situation is different. Ideal results are achieved with a standardised water quality of approximately 10° to 12° degrees of German hardness using Extrafit Hardener 2224.

Advantages of Extrafit Hardener 2224 in offset printing:

Water is one of the best solvents. The purer the water the higher is its effectivity as solvent. Here, pure waters – demineralised and natural waters without hardness components – are espe-cially aggressive to all materials used for offset printing (paper, ink, machine parts).
A standardization of the process water can be achieved by ion exchange resins or reverse os-mosis. A readjustment to the required hardness degree by using fed-in town water is only rarely possible. Within the framework of the integrated systems, different water qualities are fed in from different catchment areas, possibly several times a day, and thus do not offer constant conditions. It particular, it is not ensured that the anions NO3 and Cl of the raw water used, which are responsible for corrosion damage, are within the tolerable limits:

• Chloride: max. 25 mg/l
• Nitrate: max. 20 mg/l
• Sulphate: max. 50 mg/l*)

The best effect for strongly hardness-generating process water offers the reverse osmosis with subsequent dosing of Extrafit Hardener 2224. This offers ideal conditions for the printing field. For the production of Extrafit Hardener 2224, no corrosive acting raw materials are used. Com-pared to softened or reverse osmosis water, there is a clear reduction of the aggressiveness of the water.
