UV PrimeStar LM

Legal requirements on food packaging are very high. They have to be produced in a way that “…under normal or foreseeable conditions of use, they do not transfer their constituents to food in quantities which would:

  • Endanger human health; or
  • Bring about an unacceptable change in the composition of the food; or
  • Bring about a deterioration in the organoleptic characteristics thereof."*

*) excerpt of article 3 of the framework regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004 of the European Parlament and Council of 27.10.2004

Thereby, always the complete packaging, consisting of printing substrate, ink, varnish and possible finishing components, are in the focus of the legislator. Therefore, measured and limit values do not refer to single components but always to the complete product.

These requirements can be achieved with the UV PrimeStar LM series of Epple Druckfarben AG.

This series has an extremely good curing, excellent adhesion in the tesa-test and is extraordinary scratch resistant. This series has an extremely good curing, excellent adhesion in the tesa-test and is extraordinary scratch resistant. This series has been tested successfully regarding migration and odour reduction for cup printing and the printing on coated cardboard. In addition to the choice of suitable material (printing substrate, ink and varnish), also the optimal process which guarantees a curing of ink and varnish layer is essential for the printing of food packaging. In order to receive final assurance, a migration test of the final printed product should be conducted by an independent institution.

Important notes of usage

Because of the vast variety of substrates on the market, in-house pre-runs are advised to determine the adhesive properties. Should you require any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our technical engineers.

UV inks have a limited shelf life. In case of appropriate storage at 20 °C and protected from direct sunlight, we guarantee a shelf life of 6 months.

This technical instruction sheet is designed for your information and reference. It is based on and conforms to our current knowledge. However as actual application is affected by many factors over which we have no control, we are not liable for printing failures.
