Our contribution to the circular economy: Packages of measures are under preparation

We want to contribute to a functional circular economy. This is why the “Core Sustainability Team“ has prioritised four areas for Epple Druckfarben AG that we can specifically influence with measures. These four areas comprise: Business and production processes at the Neusäß site, R&D and product portfolio, raw material production impacts and reduction of our carbon footprint. Epple has defined a measures plan for each of these focus areas implementing short, medium, and long-term sustainability projects. These will be prepared within the team and then implemented across the company. In the “Raw material production impacts“ area, we have, for instance, drawn up a supplier questionnaire that asks business partners for information about their company and the supplied raw materials. The resulting data will be important for calculating the future carbon footprint of Epple Druckfarben AG and the respective products.

Based on our vision and the mind map shown here with defined areas, we have developed a core of 5 SDGs where Epple Druckfarben AG can make the greatest contribution.

Carbon footprint

Our goal is to reduce our carbon footprint. We need a reliable database across the entire life-cycle of our products to determine long-term and specific goals. We can currently evaluate their path from the factory gate to dispatch (Cradle-to-Gate). However, to calculate the complete emissions, we are also working on obtaining data on the raw materials and the usage and disposal phases.

Neusäß site

Core objectives of the climate actions at the Neusäß production site are the reduction in energy consumption and waste. We are using 100 % green power for our power supply, and avoiding/reducing surplus production and rejects through efficient production planning to help to save resources. In everyday company life, we are following concepts for waste avoidance, e.g., not using disposable cups. Our sustainability team is also supporting the necessary employee awareness with information and training.

Raw materials

Transparency in the procurement and processing of raw materials is important to us. We aim to obtain the necessary information using a questionnaire and in direct discussions with our suppliers. The obtained data are important in two ways: for supplier evaluation with regards to responsible sourcing and to calculate our carbon footprint.

Products

Our printing inks are designed to produce printed products with a low ecological footprint: from formulating products with organic materials to product properties such as good deinkability and processing, to providing advice and technical services that help customers achieve robust production processes. Industry partnerships also support synergies and knowledge transfer.
