Interview with Product Line Manager Helmut Fröhlich

You have been working for Epple Druckfarben AG for 20 years. What were your stations specifically?

I have been working for Epple Druckfarben AG since 2000. At the beginning I was employed in the test pressroom for several years until I moved to the colouristics department as head of department in 2005. Subsequently, I took over the packaging segment, which I have now been in charge of as Product Line Manager Packaging for almost 2 years. In addition to colours, this area also includes the corresponding products of the coating segment. But I am also responsible for special colours and our complete range of coatings. I am very happy to be able to actively shape this large and increasingly important area within the company and for our customers.

How has the market changed in your eyes?

The printing market is constantly changing. Printing companies are increasingly going through phases of consolidation. Over the past 20 years the print market has declined significantly, firstly in volume and secondly in the number of printing plants in Germany and internationally. Groups of companies continue to grow while fewer and fewer individual businesses remain. In addition, the demand for sustainable colour technologies is growing. As a family-run, medium-sized company, Epple has learned to react dynamically to changes in the market and the needs of our customers. Thanks to our development team, we are able to consistently deliver convincing innovations.

What challenges do you face as a packaging expert?

The topics, especially in this challenging area, are numerous. The most important thing in the food packaging sector is that ultimately the conformity of the entire packaging is guaranteed. The individual products, such as inks, coatings and the substrates used, result in the compliant printed product. The decisive factors are the selection of raw materials, permanent incoming and outgoing quality controls as well as the performance of the product. Here, we try to support our customers in the best possible way with our decades of know-how and development experience.
